FREE Men’s Health Seminar Presented by Alisa Berger, MD
Dr. Berger, urologist at Brazosport Urology, is holding a FREE Men’s Health Seminar featuring information on erectile dysfunction (ED), enlarged prostate (BPH), and incontinence. The seminar will be held Wednesday, May 14 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Brazosport Regional Health System in the classrooms.

ED, formally known as impotence, affects an average of 15 to 30 million American men. Although ED can be treatable for men of all ages, it can be harmful to a man’s self-image. ED is defined as the inability to obtain an erection long enough to participate in sexual intercourse and is most often found in men over the age of 65. ED can occur at any age and can interfere with sexual relationships leading to low self-esteem.

According to Medtronic, BPH is the most common disorder of the prostate and for male patients age 45-74, BPH is the most common diagnosis by urologist. Men having trouble urinating is the initial sign of BPH. BPH occurs when the prostate enlarges and squeezes the urethra restricting the flow of urine from the bladder. BPH is not a sign of prostate cancer, however since the symptoms of both conditions are similar, it’s better to get a physician to evaluate these symptoms.

Incontinence, which is the accidental leakage of urine, affects approximately 12 million people in the United States. Stress, urge, overflow, and functional incontinence are four types of urinary incontinence. Causes of incontinence include but not limited to enlarged prostate, weakened pelvic muscles, and problems such as diabetes or high calcium levels.

The FREE Men’s Seminar will be May’s community education program sponsored by Brazosport Regional Health System. Dr. Berger’s presentation will be held on Wednesday, May 14th from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the classrooms at Brazosport Regional. For more information, please call 979-285-1824.
