Samuel L. Hudson, MD, To Speak About the Use of
Computer Navigation in Total Knee Replacement
Is knee pain affecting your daily life? Does the pain affect your mobility? Millions of Americans suffer from knee problems each year. Samuel Hudson, MD from The Bone and Joint Clinic of Lake Jackson will speak at Brazosport Regional Health System’s community education seminar about the use of computer navigation in total knee replacement to relieve your knee pain.
Dr. Hudson, who has over 20 years experience as an orthopedic surgeon, cares for patients with problems of the musculoskeletal system, including both medical and surgical treatment for traumatic injuries or degenerative diseases. In addition, he is a pioneer in the use of computer navigation, which is the latest technology used in joint replacements.
Total knee replacement (TKA) is the relining of the joint with artificial parts called prostheses. Use of computer navigation in total knee replacements means faster recovery, fewer complications and less discomfort. Orthopedic surgeons and bio-engineers agree the key to longer lasting knee implants is near “perfect” alignment of the prostheses to minimize wear. Computer navigation, the same basic technology used in GPS navigation, allows for the opportunity to operate through a smaller incision with increased accuracy, limb alignment and balance, which results in a more durable, longer-lasting knee. “With computer navigation system, not only can I perform computer-directed bone cuts, but I can also double-check them after the cut before moving on with the procedure,” Dr. Hudson stated. “It is also possible to make adjustments based on the unique shape of the patient’s knee before actually making the cuts.”
At the educational presentation, Dr. Hudson will include information about the causes and symptoms of knee arthritis, potential benefits of TKA surgery, the traditional method of TKA, and the use of computer navigation and its benefits.
Hudson’s presentation, “The Use of Computer Navigation in Total Knee Replacement” will be Wednesday, April 16 from 6:00pm-7:00pm at Brazosport Regional in the classrooms. For more information about the program, please call 979-285-1824.
